Novonix Appoints Michael O’Kronley as its New Chief Executive Officer

Novonix, one of the world’s leading battery technology and manufacturing companies, has announced the name of its new CEO. Michael O’Kronley will take the helm as the company’s new CEO, effective May 19, 2025. 

Michael has a strong technical foundation in engineering and management, with over 30 years of experience in various companies across multiple roles, including 15 years in the Li-ion battery and battery material space. Before joining Novonix as its CEO, Mr O’Kronley served as the chief executive officer of Ascend Elements. In his time as the CEO of Ascend Elements, Michael has been instrumental in growing the enterprise value of the company by $1.6 billion in 5 years. 

Michael shared his views on his appointment, saying, “It’s an honour to join NOVONIX at such a pivotal time. I look forward to working with the team to build on recent successes and ultimately onshore the graphite supply chain in North America.

On this appointment, the chairman of Novonix, Admiral Robert J Natter, USN(Retd.), said, “We are thrilled to welcome Mr. O’Kronley to the NOVONIX team. His professional accomplishments as well as his extensive experience in manufacturing, operations, and scaling critical minerals production, makes him an ideal choice. We’re confident in his ability to lead the Company into its next phase of growth from our headquarters in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Mr Robert Long, who has been acting as the interim CEO of the company since January 2025, will now resume his role as the Chief Financial Officer of the company.
