Linda Yaccarino Steps Down as CEO of Elon Musk’s X

Linda Yaccarino has resigned from her post as CEO of X, formerly Twitter, after serving in the role for two years. Yaccarino, an ad exec at NBCUniversal, was hired in 2023 to help create Elon Musk’s vision for an “Everything App.”

In a goodbye post on X, she thanked Musk for the opportunity, saying, “After two amazing years, I’ve decided to resign as CEO of X. It was a once-in-a-lifetime mission to safeguard free speech and lead this historic turnaround.”

Her resignation comes at a difficult time for the platform. X’s AI chatbot, Grok, has been criticised for posts with antisemitic remarks and offensive claims about Islam. While no official reason was given for Yaccarino’s resignation, the timing has led to speculation about inner disturbance.

Elon Musk posted a short response thanking Yaccarino for her contributions.

Linda Yaccarino’s tenure was also shadowed by ongoing controversies that could be traced back to Elon Musk’s comments, including his endorsement of antisemitic conspiracy theories in 2023.

Whether Yaccarino’s resignation has wider implications for existing tensions between people in senior roles at the company, X now has to balance their business aspirations with a bruised reputation.
