Following a Global Restructuring Program Procter & Gamble Co. Announces Exit From Pakistan

Following a global restructuring, Procter & Gamble announced it will shut down its business in Pakistan, after Shell and Pfizer’s exit. It is discontinuing operations, including manufacturing and Gillette Pakistan, and considering third-party distribution.

The Cincinnati-based firm said it will continue serving consumers from other regions as it winds down its Pakistan activities.

Procter & Gamble is undergoing a major overhaul, planning to cut up to 7,000 jobs and reduce brands. This move responds to tough economic conditions, including trade tariffs and declining customer spending.

This makes P&G the latest multinational to exit Pakistan amid economic hardship and falling demand, with Gillette Pakistan’s revenue nearly halved in June to three billion rupees, a record low compared to two years ago.

The decision also makes P&G the latest multinational to scale back its operations in Pakistan, amid broader business and economic challenges, including profit-repatriation curbs and weak demand. Gillette Pakistan’s revenue almost halved in the fiscal year ended June 2025 after reaching a record three billion rupees two years ago.

Recently, major companies like Shell, Pfizer, TotalEnergies, and Telenor withdrew from Pakistan by selling operations or reducing presence. This trend shows multinationals leaving despite Pakistan’s large population, which suggests a promising market. Last year, P&G sold its local soap factory, indicating a strategy to cut investment.

Since 1991, P&G has established a strong presence in Pakistan, quickly growing into one of the country’s top consumer goods companies. They built local factories, including purchasing a soap plant in 1994 and a detergent factory in 2010. Their main products, such as Pampers, Ariel, and Head & Shoulders, became well-known names in nearly every household.
