Amazon to Shut Down Appstore on Android Devices After 14 Years

Amazon will permanently close its App store for Android phones and tablets on August 20, 2025, after 14 years of operation. This means you won’t be able to download apps from Amazon on Android devices anymore. Amazon decided to stop the app store because most people were not using it on Android.

The unused Amazon coins will automatically be refunded to your original payment method, but for that, you need to have updated information about your account. If you want to use Amazon coins, you can use them before August 20, 2025.

The Amazon Appstore will still work on Amazon’s own devices, like Fire TV and Fire Tablet. However, if you have an Android phone, you will need to use alternative app stores, such as Google’s Play Store.

Amazon has decided to focus its energy on other ecosystems, such as Prime Video, e-books, and audiobooks, from which it earns $12 billion per annum.
