City Bank Names New Heads for Key Banking Divisions

City Bank recently announced two announcements, naming Mesbaul Asif Siddiqui and Mohammad Mahmud Gony as new Deputy Managing Directors (DMDs). Siddiqui leads wholesale banking, and Gony leads corporate banking, two of the bank’s flagship businesses.Ā 

Asif Siddiqui was the bank’s Chief Risk Officer prior to leading wholesale banking. He began his banking career in 1999 with Eastern Bank and has held senior leadership roles with the Commercial Bank of Ceylon and HSBC in Bangladesh and Singapore.Ā 

As Managing Director of City Bank (and a charter member) since 2015, Asif spearheaded sustainability efforts at the bank, which included becoming a signatory to the UN’s Net-Zero Banking Alliance. Under Asif’s leadership, City Bank was ranked as one of the top 10 banks in Bangladesh for sustainability for four years. Asif holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Dhaka and an MBM with BIBM.Ā 

Mohammad Mahmud Gony, the new head of corporate banking, started at City Bank in 2001. He helped build the corporate banking division during the bank’s transformation in 2007. After a brief tenure at another local bank, Gony returned to City Bank in 2017.Ā

Gony brings more than 20 years of experience in corporate banking, credit risk, and business growth. He has degrees in agricultural economics and marketing.Ā 

These appointments underscore City Bank’s commitment to excellence in leadership and its focus on strategic growth.
